New Area for Morning Arrival
Starting Monday, November 3 students will be able to enter the building when they arrive at school in the morning. The new arrival area will be the hallway outside the gym. There will be one teacher supervising students at the bottom of the stairs and another teacher near the kindergarten entry doorway at the top of the staircase. No students should be in any areas of the historic part of the school before 8:05, except for families arriving at the preschool.
This change is in coordination with the November 1-April 1 street closures in Telluride. As the parking areas decrease starting next week, it is imperative that we enforce the “Drop off Zones” on both Townsend and Galena. If you would like to walk your child into school, you need to park on the opposite of both Townsend and Galena. The Drop off Zone is intended for parents to drive up to the curb, let children out of cars and enter the building on their own, so that parents can then drive away leaving a safe area for the next car to unload students. When parents park and run into the building it causes other cars to be forced into unloading children in the middle of the street. We would like your help in making sure that students have a safe drop off area at all times of the year. During the winter months, the Telluride Marshals Department often patrols the area and may ticket cars parked in this zone.
Kids Cavity Prevention Program
On Tuesday, November 4, the San Juan Kids Cavity Prevention Program will begin and run for four days over the next two weeks. We are looking for parent volunteers to work two-hour shifts escorting students to and from their classrooms so teachers will not have to interrupt their lessons. If you can help for two hours on November 4,5,6 or 11 please email me. I will also post the volunteer sign-up on the counter in Shelley’s office.
Lost and Found
With cold mornings and hot afternoons, many students are shedding their jackets and leaving them on the playground. The lost and found box, located by the south door in the basement, is OVERFLOWING. Please walk by and look for lost items before they end up in the Freebox.

Third Entry
Hi Parents,
Please join us tomorrow morning at 8:30 in the TES gym for our first assembly of the year. The TES student leadership committee will presenting the virtue of the month which is respect. Students who completed a Summer Bridge packet will be recognized and we will have a gold nugget drawing for prizes. The assembly should last 15-20 minutes and all are welcome.
Be on the lookout for information on the San Juan Kids Cavity Prevention Program. This program is sponsored through the Telluride Foundation and available to all students. There are no qualifying factors, if you would like your child to be seen by a dental professional, please complete and return the paperwork by October 24.
The Fall Harvest Festival is rapidly approaching. Don't forget about raffle tickets. See you at the big event next Friday.

Second Blog Entry
Dear Parents,
You are invited to attend an informational meeting on the School District Bond Question 3A on October 14th at 5:15 in the Palm Theatre.
On November 4th the School District is asking voters to approve Question 3A for $18 million to plan for the future with the following capital projects:
• Provide eight additional classrooms, small group instructional spaces, a greenhouse laboratory that will compliment our science curriculum and an administrative office.
• Provide renovations and building system upgrades to the historic Telluride Elementary School.
• Provide additional cafeteria and gymnasium space in the Middle/High School to address growing student population needs.
• Provide new infrastructure for technology.
• Provide affordable housing for teachers.

PTSO Fall Harvest Festival
The PTSO will selling pumpkin, gourds, and Indian corn outside the elementary school on Tuesday, October 14 and Wednesday, October 15 from 3:15 to 4:15. These items have been generously donated by the Mountain Market in Mountain Village. If you miss the pumpkin sale on these dates, all remaining items will be sold during the Fall Harvest Festival on Friday, October 24 from 4:00-6:30 in the TES gym.
Also be on the lookout for Fall Harvest Festival Raffle Tickets. Each child is encouraged to sell five tickets for $5 each. Tickets and money can be returned to your child's classroom teacher on or before October 24th. Raffle tickets will be coming home this Friday in your child's backpack. Again, if you are able to help with the festival please contact Emily Destefano at emilydestefano@yahoo.com
Chidfind for ages 0-3
The Childfind Develpmental screening for ages 0-3 will be held at the TES gym on Monday, October 13 from 9-3:00. This free event is sponsored by the UnBOCS and includes hearing, dental, vision, fine and gross motor skills, concepts, speech and physical progress checks. To schedule an appointment, please call Melissa at 209-3188.
Picture Day is scheduled for Wednesday October 22. Students will bring home order forms closer to the date.
Ski P.E.
The TES Ski PE program will begin on Monday, December 15 and run for six weeks. Kindergarten and first grade students will ski on Monday with second and third grade students skiing on Tuesday. You will be receiving a packet of information regarding this program and student options in the next few weeks.

Welcome to the blog!
School Bond Question
If you'd like to learn more about the school bond question that will appear on the November ballot, please attend an informational meeting on Tuesday, October 14 at 5:00pm in the Palm Theater. Our Superintendent, Mary Rubadeau, Business Director, Kurt Shugars and members of the Board of Education will be presenting a brief overview of the proposed new school. This is also a time for parents and members of the community to ask questions regarding the bond and the school district.
New Morning Routine
Due to the ever growing K-3 student population we no longer have enough space to comfortably gather in the front hallway each morning before the bell rings. Recently, we have asked students and parents to wait outside on the front steps or the playground. Ms. Scherner will be outside each morning to greet students and supervise the area. When the bell rings at 8:05 all students may enter the building. It is getting colder each morning so please send your child to school with a warm jacket. Very soon, I will be asking you to dress your child in boots and snowsuits as we prepare for the beginning of winter. If you drop students off by the kindergarten entrance on Galena, they will be able to wait in the large hallway. This area is also supervised by a teacher each morning.

Mark your calendars..... the PTSO Fall Harvest Festival will be held on Friday, October 24 from 4:30-6:30 in the TES gym. This is a fun family friendly event for the entire community. Please come for dinner, games and the every popular "Cake Walk". The festival is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the PTSO which in turn does numerous activities to support our wonderful teachers. If you would like to help support this event by planning, donating items for the raffle or helping on the day of the event please contact Emily Destefano at emilydestefano@yahoo.com
