PTSO BOOK FAIR
As the winds kick up in the Telluride valley so does the speed of events happening at TES. Last wee we finished the four day PTSO Book Fair. Thanks to the great leadership skills of Lindsey Walker and Corinne Creel, the book fair was once again a great success. Proceeds from the fair go towards acquiring new books for our library.
CSAP
Last month the third grade students took the Reading CSAP state assessment. Next week they will take the Writing CSAP and the following week the Math CSAP. CSAP stands for Colorado Student Assessment Program which students begin in third grade and finish in tenth grade. The tests are evaluated out of state and unfortunately we only receive the reading scores before the end of this year. The writing and math scores are received in the fall of 2009. Students and teachers have been working hard to make sure they are prepared for the tests by working on following directions, checking over their work, and being thorough. Historically, our third graders have performed above the state average on all three CSAP assessments. Student scores do not effect report card grades, but are used to determine student and curricular strengths and needs.
TRAFFIC
Our friendly crossing guard, Mark Buscheib, would like help in making sure all students are using the crosswalks in front of the school on Galena Ave. Please do not drop students off in the middle of the block as this is a hazard with so much traffic in the mornings. I encourage more parents to drop their students at the back of the school by the kindergarten rooms. When stopping at this location, your child only has to take a few steps before they are in the building in a supervised area. If you choose to walk your child into the building you must find a parking spot that is NOT in teacher designated parking or in one of the two "Drop-off Zones". Please be responsible when dropping your child so we can keep Telluride Elementary as safe as possible.
ASSEMBLY THIS WEEK
Please join us for the virtue of the month assembly this Thursday, March 12 at 8:30 in the TES gym. The Student Leadership committee will be presenting a skit based on the next virtue of the month, we will have a gold nugget drawing for prizes and awards will be presented for second trimester. Not all students will receive an award, but we value the three times of year that we do publicly recognize select students for individual growth, citizenship and academic merit.
NEW FACE IN KINDERGARTEN
Robbin Cooper has begun her maternity leave even though her baby has not yet arrived. Julie Evans is the long term substitute for Robbin and will be teaching until the end of the school year. Julie has two children at TES and was formerly the K-12 Outdoor Education teacher for the district. If you see Julie in the hallways, please give her a warm welcome. She has done an excellent job making the transition smooth for her students.

- Trish Scherner began teaching in Telluride in 1990. She has taught third through sixth grade and worked as the Math Resource teacher when her children were young. She worked as the K-6 Assistant Principal for two years before becoming the principal of the Telluride Elementary School. Trish has two children; Samantha a second grader and Henry who has just begun Kindergarten. She moved to Telluride from Chicago for the "summer only" and twenty years later she is still in love with the San Juan Mountains.
